House of M took place in an alternate reality created by the Scarlet Witch. In that reality, humans and mutants went to war. Tony Stark, who had taken over the Stark Industries business after his father, Howard Stark, retired following some bad business decisions, supplied the human forces with technology to fight the mutants. Tony was on the verge of a scientific breakthrough that could have turned the tide of the war, an armor powerful enough to stand up to even the most powerful mutants when the mutant forces claimed victory.
Since then, Tony’s armor was powered down in distributed for a televised sport called Robo Death Match. Tony and Howard Stark compete in the games and the best in the world at it.
Stark Industries was awarded a contract to produce Sentinels, under the watchful eye of mutants like Magnus, Sebastian Shaw, Henry McCoy, and Forge.
The armor sometimes referred to as Sapien Death Match armor, is equipped with superhuman strength and physical protection, jet boots and a variety of weapons including repulsor rays, pulse beams, missile launchers, lasers, tasers, and flamethrowers. The unibeam in the center of his chest emits light energy, and the helmet features communication devices, scanning equipment, and recording devices.
