The Hulk is one of the most powerful beings in the Marvel Universe, but did he seriously just get even bigger?

That’s the question at hand thanks to Hulk’s latest appearance in the Thor: Ragnarok trailer. The newest footage gives fans a side by side comparison to Thor, Valkyrie, and Loki, and many might have just assumed his large stature was unchanged. That doesn’t seem to be the case though thanks to some fine analysis by Wired’s Rhett Allain.
Allain wrote up an in-depth analysis of Hulk’s height and mass, as well as how high he could actually jump. As a foundation for his numbers, he looked to The Avengers, which has a fantastic scene that rotates the camera around the whole group. Here he is standing side by side with Captain America, Hawkeye, Black Widow, and more, showing his increased scale in comparison to them. At the time he assessed that the Hulk’s mass is about 645 pounds and he stands at over 8 feet tall.
In the new image of Hulk and crew though, he seems to be even bigger, especially when you compare the image from The Avengers to this new screenshot. Even if you consider him a bit hunched over in the previous picture, he still isn’t head and shoulders taller than the other Avengers. In Ragnarok, you could essentially stick another person on top of Thor (who’s standing mind you) and come out at the same height.

So what happened between Avengers: Age of Ultron and Thor: Ragnarok to increase his scale? He could’ve always gotten another dose of Gamma Rays of course, but how and why would he do that? It could also be the product of his time on Sakaar.
Hulk has had a history of changing in size over the years, and sometimes increases in size the angrier he gets. That isn’t something the Marvel Cinematic Universe has messed with much, but it is always out there if they wanted to use it. Luckily fans won’t have to wait much longer to see exactly why this Hulk is even more imposing than before.
Thor: Ragnarok hits theaters on November 3, 2017.
