Marvel is rapidly expanding their television empire to networks outside of Netflix, including ABC's Freeform network. The service will be getting the fan favorite duo of Cloak and Dagger, who have always remained popular despite the fact that they've never had a "classic" series to call their own.
Marvel is looking to change that with this new series, which will be helmed by Joe Pokaski (Daredevil, Heroes). Now the project has a working title and is aptly being referred to as "Shadows" (via Production Weekly). The title is fitting with the characters in the comics, as Tyrone Johnson (Cloak) and Tandy Bowen (Dagger) are in their true element when working within the shadows. Cloak's teleportation abilities have bailed out the heroes of the Marvel Universe many a time, and Dagger's healing and offensive capabilities are handy to have in a battle against any foe.
It remains to be seen if both heroes can be given their proper due, but so far Marvel has an excellent track record on TV, and hopefully this keeps up their winning average. You can find the official synopsis below.
"This exciting new series is an adaptation of the beloved Marvel characters aimed squarely at young adults. This live-action interracial romance follows Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love. Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart—but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging."
Marvel's Cloak and Dagger is scheduled to hit Freeform sometime in Winter of 2018.
