Elodie Yung will reprise her role as the deadly ninja assassin and Matt Murdock’s love interest Elektra. As a series regular, Elektra should appear in all eight episodes of Marvel’s Defenders, making her as critical of a character as Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist.

Elektra was last seen in Daredevil Season 2. The nefarious organization known as the Hand had captured Elektra’s corpse with plans to resurrect her and presumably unlock her potential as the vicious weapon known as the Black Sky.It seems likely then that Elektra will be an antagonist to the Defenders, at least at the start, and probably under the sway of the Hand. That may change over the course of the series, but the Hand resurrecting the dead as its mindless, undying thralls is a recurring theme from the comics, and the easiest way to fix that tends to be purification by incineration, so the outlook isn’t great.

Elektra may be a challenge for the Defenders, but she is not the series “big bad.” That still unspecified character will be played by genre legend Sigourney Weaver, as announced at New York Comic Con.

Yung’s Elektra is just the latest supporting character from Marvel’s Defenders Netflix series to be confirmed for the big crossover miniseries. Others include Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page and Simone Missick as Misty Knight, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Carrie-Anne Moss as Jeryn Hogarth, and Eka Darville as Malcolm Ducasse, Rachael Tayler as Trish Walker, Scott Glenn as Stick, and Rosario Dawson as Claire Temple, and Jessica Henwick as Colleen Wing.

Marvel’s The Defenders is the culmination of what is presumed to be the first phase of Marvel’s Netflix television storyline. The story began in Daredevil Season 1 and continued through Jessica Jones Season 1, Daredevil Season 2, and Luke Cage Season 1, and will flow through Iron Fist Season 1 in early 2017 before The Defenders later that year.

The Defenders stars Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones, Mike Colter as Luke Cage, and Finn Jones as Danny Rand/Iron Fist. The four street-level heroes will be forced to join forces as the Defenders in order to protect New York City, from Hell’s Kitchen to Harlem, from a threat none of them are powerful enough to face alone.

The Defenders is one of three Marvel Netflix series set to premiere in 2017. Iron Fist will make it’s debut, as will Daredevil Season 2 spinoff series The Punisher. No confirmation yet on whether Frank Castle will be involved inThe Defenders.
