New Look At Venom Deadpool Released

With Deadpool (2016) raking in all kinds of cash at the box office, the mouthy mercenary is more popular today than ever before. Marvel’s quippiest anti-hero is enjoying a resurgence as fans all over the world welcome Deadpool into their homes. Next month, comic book readers will get to see an all-new side of the character in a miniseries titled Deadpool: Back in Black. So, yes, that means fans will see the hero merge with the symbiote Venom yet again.

Created by Cullen Bunn and Salvador Espin, Back in Black will follow Deadpool after Venom merges with him once Spider-Man kicks it to the curb. We’ve gotten hold of several preview scans from the upcoming story which showcase the story’s colorful pop art. However, the most exciting takeaway from the spreads is Venompool’s sleek suit. Gone is Deadpool’s black-and-red tactical costume as Venom’s traditional black-and-white coloring takes center stage. Fans can see that Venompool’s look sports several style changes as the costume’s color-blocking and face mask differ from the hero’s original suit. The character’s utility belt logo, however, looks much the same save for a new color scheme.

Of course, this isn’t the first time Deadpool has teamed up with Venom in the Marvel Universe. The characters’ first teamed up in 1984 during the Secret Wars arc – well, kind of. Recently, Marvel published a short series titled Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars (2015) which retconned what the character was doing during the original Secret Wars arc.

The new comic told fans the mercenary did take part in the 80s story and that he even merged with Venom during the ordeal. What’s more, Deadpool’s Secret Secret Wars reveals Venom’s twisted psyche was largely because it inherited part of Deadpool’s own demented personality. And, if you’re wondering why no one ever remembered that Deadpool was present for the event, it’s because he makes everyone forget in true comic book fashion.

And, back in 2011, Marvel pushed another one-shot story about Venompool. Rick Remender wrote up a What If? story that asks what would happen if Deadpool and Venom merged permanently. Obviously, the answer isn’t a pretty one. The fusion leaves Deadpool more violent than ever as Venom warps the mercenary’s mind even further.

Back and Black is being helmed by two Deadpool veterans, prompting fans to celebrate the duo’s comic book return. Bunn previously wrote The Deadpool Killogy, and he also worked alongside Espin on this year’s Deadpool & The Mercs for Money.

Deadpool: Back in Black is slated to hit shelves on October 5 2016.
