While appearing on the latest episode of The Adam Carolla Show, James Gunn was urged by the host to drop a juicy tidbit. So he revealed to them that Michael Rosenbaum, the 44-year-old best known for portraying Lex Luthor on The CW’s superhero television series Smallville (2001-2011), is in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and his secret Marvel character is connected to Sylvester Stallone’s undisclosed role.

“We do have a couple of characters who are very important to the Marvel Universe who are going to make their debut in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which people don’t know about,” Gunn shared. “Sylvester Stallone plays one of these characters.” He then adds, “I will say that my friend Michael Rosenbaum also has a pretty decent role in the movie as well, and it sort of works in tandem with Sly’s character.”

As Gunn mentioned in the quote above, he is friends with Rosenbaum. They previously worked together on PG Porn (2008-2009); Gunn created the web series with his brothers Brian Gunn and Sean Gunn, while Rosenbaum voiced Charlie Braun โ€” a parody of Charlie Brown. Also, in 2013, Gunn brought Rosenbaum in to audition for the role of Star-Lord/Peter Quill. He reportedly made the short-list, but as you know, Chris Pratt eventually landed the role.

Set to the backdrop of ‘Awesome Mixtape #2,’ Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 continues the team’s adventures as they traverse the outer reaches of the cosmos. The Guardians must fight to keep their newfound family together as they unravel the mysteries of Peter Quill’s true parentage. Old foes become new allies and fan-favorite characters from the classic comics will come to our heroes’ aid as the Marvel cinematic universe continues to expand.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is written and directed by James Gunn (Slither). The film marks the return of the original Guardians, including Chris Pratt (Jurassic World) as Peter Quill/Star-Lord; Zoe Saldana (Star Trek Into Darkness) as Gamora; Dave Bautista (Spectre) as Drax; Vin Diesel (Furious 7) as the voice of Groot; Bradley Cooper (American Sniper) as the voice of Rocket; Michael Rooker (Jumper) as Yondu; Karen Gillan (The Big Short) as Nebula; and Sean Gunn (Gilmore Girls) as Kraglin. New cast members include Pom Klementieff (Oldboy), Elizabeth Debicki (The Great Gatsby, Everest), Chris Sullivan (The Knick, The Drop) and Kurt Russell (The Hateful Eight, The Thing).
