Sony confirmed as much in a series of tweets, which you can read for yourself, below.

Bob Persichetti (Shrek 2, Puss In Boots) and Peter Ramsey (Rise of the Guardians) have some pretty acclaimed animated features on their respective resumes, which bodes well for this Miles Morales Spider-Man movie. The released date of Christmas season 2018 is a prime one, giving this movie a real chance at big box office success.

The story of Miles Morales is a far cry from that of Peter Parker’s Spider-Man. Whereas Peter became Spider-Man (seemingly) randomly, and had his heroism instilled by tragic loss, Miles became caught up in the criminal dealings of his family, with his uncle’s misdeeds being the reason he gained his powers from a Norman Osborn-created enhanced Spider. Whereas Peter actively embraced his Spider-Man persona, Miles was a much more reluctant hero.

Spider-Man and Miles Morales

More than anything, Miles Morales status as a half-black, half-Latin hero has been a thing of both celebration and controversy, yet the hero has come to earn the respect of a growing fanbase. This animated feature is a big opportunity for Miles to breakout and truly become a household name – and most fans will be excited for that chance, as well as the chance for us to get a different Spider-Man story on the big screen, for the first time ever.
