Emoji Movie Pulls Ahead Of Spider-Man: Homecoming In New Social Media Chatter

Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Spider-Man: Homecoming are the most talked about upcoming movies on social media from a cumulative standpoint, but it isn’t all good news for the next Marvel Studios film.

With just over a month until release, Spider-Man: Homecoming should be building its buzz to its highest level. And yet, according to marketing data and analytics company comScore’s PreAct tracking service, Spider-Man: Homecoming was overshadowed by The Emoji Movie during the week of May 15-21.

For that week, Baywatch, Wonder Woman, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales were the top three most talked about movies on social media. That’s understandable given that Baywatch and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales opened over the Memorial Day weekend and Wonder Woman is set to follow this weekend.

However, The Emoji Movie won’t open in theaters until July 28, weeks after Spider-Man: Homecoming. For the animated comedy to be stealing attention from the next big Marvel superhero sensation must be at least a bit frustrating for the film’s marketing department.

War for the Planet of the Apes, Transformers: The Last Knight, Star Wars: The Last Jedi, The Mummy, and Blade Runner 2049 fill out the remaining top 10 spots on comScore’s chart.

Spider-Man: Homecoming currently has a 4.12 out of 5 ComicBook User Anticipation Rating, making it the seventh most anticipated upcoming comic book movie among ComicBook.com readers.
