With Spider-Man: Homecoming debuting in just a few months, the titular web slinger is again at the forefront of the pop culture consciousness. While many are excited to see the newest interpretation of Peter Parker, some are questioning why we need yet another reboot of the franchise that has seen two distinct adaptations (Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man) within the past two decades.

According to the most recent actor to play the character, Tom Holland, the Spider-Man franchise stands the test of time for several reasons. But one of his favorite things about the character is how easy it is for audience members to see themselves in him.
“Peter Parker is probably the most relatable superhero maybe ever,” Holland recently explained to Variety, “because he goes through something that basically everyone has to go through. Whether it’s puberty or talking to girls or doing homework, he does it in such a human way. That’s why he’s such a beloved character, because so many people can relate to him.”
Holland has certainly does his research to be able to capture that element of the film, even going undercover at an actual New York high school in preparation for the role.
Holland jokingly added that the accessibility of Spider-Man for younger audiences extends to even a cosmetic level, considering the costume that he wears.
“If you ask any kid under the age of 10 what their favorite colors are, it’s probably red and blue, so he’s got both of those checked off.”
