In fact, among the diverse cast is a bunch of actors not only young in their careers but in age, as well. Between Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, and Laura Harrier, the combined age is considerably under 100 years. Still, they recongize the importance of diversity in these films.

“I think it’s huge that this movie looks the way that it does,” Harrier told ComicBook.com. “I think Amy Pascal said it in the press conference. This is just reality. If you go to a high school in Queens, it looks like us and it feels almost like it shouldn’t be groundbreaking but it is. Hopefully this is indicative of the future. I hope we see a lot more movies like this. Yeah, I don’t think things are where they should be, but I think this means we’re moving in the right direction.”

Amy Pascal’s comments from the press conference in reference came from a reporter asking the cast and crew about the inspiration for the films diversity. “I would say the inspiration for it was reality,” said Pascal.

Harrier is hardly the only cast member grateful for the diversity within Spider-Man: Homecoming. “Thank you to Jon [Watts], Amy [Pascal] and Kevin [Feige] for casting a 5-foot-8 brown guy to play a 6-foot-2 blond, blue-eyed guy,” Flash Thompson actor Tony Revolori said.

20-year-old Ned Leeds actor Jacob Batalon also weighed in on the subject while talking to ComicBook.com. “I’m very proud of it,” Batalon said. “We’re very proud of the fact that we’re able to be one of those films where we challenge the stereotype. Diversity in the industry has been lacking. Equal opportunity comes very far and few in-between for people of color and especially when the industry is so cut-throat. But as I’ve been saying, the industry is very indicative of where society is going and society is moving in such a way, we’re becoming more self-aware, more caring about other people. It’s a really important thing for Hollywood to start showing other points of views as opposed to just one. I think we’re doing a really good job of it.”
