Spider-Man Movie Celebrity Cameos You Probably Missed

Spider-Man is arguably the world’s most popular superhero (just don’t tell Batman).

Between three different movie franchises, eight cartoons, video games, and countless appearances in media in between, the character has become a permanent fixture of the cultural zeitgeist.

And with such a vast legacy in television and film, the character has impact many prominent actors careers.

Whether someone was just getting their start or an icon was making a cameo, a ton of huge stars have appeared in the movies and various other media.

With Wall Crawler set to swing back into theaters in Spider-Man: Homecoming, we’re likely to see even more people make a coveted appearance in Spidey’s world.

We’ve decided to take a look at some of the most prominent actors who have appeared in the various Spider-Man media projects over the years.

Aidy Bryant – Statue of Liberty

Known For: Saturday Night Live

One of Saturday Night Live’s funniest cast members on the current run, Aidy Bryant made a minor cameo in Andrew Garfield’s run on the franchise.

The Amazing Spider-Man series did not feature a ton of cameos as it was, so it’s awesome to see that Bryant snagged a minor role in the film

You can catch her dressed up as the Statue of Liberty posing for photographs with New York tourists who don’t know any better.

 

Octavia Spencer – Wrestling Promoter

Known For: Oscar Winning Actor in the Help

Before Octavia Spencer became one of the top actors of the day, she had to slum it with the likes of Macho Man Randy Savage and Bruce Campbell in this scene.

In the very first Spider-Man film from Sam Raimi, she plays the wrestling promoter who tries to ward off Peter Parker. She has little faith in his ability to last even a couple minutes in the ring against Bone Saw.

But then Parker goes and wins some bucks, though the boss cheats him out of his promised funds when he beats Bone Saw before the time limit. Then the guy gets robbed, and Parker lets him escape, which leads to Uncle Ben’s murder.

So if you think about it, Spencer’s character was just trying to prevent Parker from getting orphaned.

 

Joel McHale – Banker

Known For: The Soup, Community

If you need someone to be a jerk, Joel McHale is your man.

The scene in question has Aunt May and Peter go to a bank to try and get a loan so May can keep her house.

But McHale barely even humors the poor family down on their luck, until they are interrupted by Doctor Octopus who needs to steal a bunch of money so he can buy some tritium because he’s a fiend for creating theoretical power sources.

Parker abandons Aunt May to get in his Spider-Man costume, causing McHale to quip that her nephew is a “real hero,” oblivious that the man just save their lives.

 

Joe Manganiello – Flash Thompson

Known For: True Blood, Magic Mike

In the latest edition of “Twentysomethings pretend to be in high school,” the future Deathstroke makes an appearance in Sam Raimi’s first Spider-Man movie.

He plays Flash Thomspon and we’re only featuring him here because he looks so radically different from his current appearance.

With the spiked hair and leather jacket, he looks like the perfect candidate to appear on the Jersey Shore reboot. All he needs is some frosted tips, bronzer, and maybe a pooka shell necklace.

 

Aasif Mandvi – Mr. Aziz AKA Pizza Jerk

Known For: The Daily Show

The pizza shop owner gives Tobey Maguire’s Peter Parker so many chances to get the job done.

Parker, though, won’t deliver pizzas as the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and has to use his crusty scooter to get the job done. After delivering another late pizza, Aziz has to fire him.

But he does have one of the best lines in the movie when he shouts at Parker, who is late to standing around waiting for an invitation to actually get his job done. Aziz stops short of kicking him in the pants and instead hilariously screams at him: “GoooOOOOoooo!”

 

Jim Norton – Jerk

Known For: Stand-up Comedy

There’s a scene in the first Spider-Man movie where the news does a feature on the wall-crawling vigilante.

Spidey has become a controversial figure in that time; some people love him while others hate him.

Jim Norton’s character is in the latter camp, and his character tells the camera “HE STINKS AND I DON’T LIKE HIM.”


This is surprisingly subtle for Norton, who normally would drop a few F-bombs in there for added effect.




 

Lucy Lawless – Smoker

Known For: Xena, Warrior Princess

This is probably the best cameo in any Spider-Man movie ever made because 1) Lucy Lawless is so unrecognizable and 2) Lucy Lawless is amazing.

In the same sequence with the news report getting opinions about Spider-Man from people on the streets of New York, Lawless appears with short orange hair and a nose piercing, smoking a cigarette.

When the scene turns to her to find out what she thinks about the new vigilante, she simply says “Guy with eight hands. Sounds hot.”

Stan Lee – Various

Known For: Creating Spider-Man

You might not know this, but Spider-Man’s co-creator himself has appeared in Spider-Man movies! In fact, he’s appeared in every Spider-Man movie!

Stan Lee himself teamed up with Steve Ditko to bring the Wall Crawler into existence all the way back in 1962 in the pages of Amazing Fantasy #15.

His cameos are blink-and-you’ll-miss-it affairs, leading fans to keep their eyes out for anywhere the comic legend might reappear.

Hey, wait a second. This is an obvious one! He’s in every damn Marvel movie! What a rip off!

Maybe he’ll appear again in Spider-Man: Homecoming, set to premiere in theaters July 7, but who knows!

Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, young Peter Parker (Tom Holland) returns home to live with his Aunt May. Under the watchful eye of mentor Tony Stark, Parker starts to embrace his newfound identity as Spider-Man. He also tries to return to his normal daily routine — distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just a friendly neighborhood superhero. Peter must soon put his powers to the test when the evil Vulture emerges to threaten everything that he holds dear.
