Mewes is appearing at Wizard World Nashville this weekend, where he spoke about his new project. He also revealed that one of his comic book icons is making an appearance.
“He does a cameo in my movie,” Mewes told ComicBook.com. It’s Madness and the Method that I directed, which no one has seen yet but I hope to pitch it soon. We’re going to submit it to Sundance.”
Mewes has had the good fortune of knowing Stan Lee for some time now, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t surreal every time he talks to him.
“Even though it’s been many many years, I still every single time he says hi to me, “what’s up Jason” or he’ll make a joke, make fun of me or something, it always gives me chills,” Mewes said.
That stems from Mewes’ long history with comic books, something that also had a hand in introducing him to longtime friend Kevin Smith.
“I mean it’s been really surreal. Mallrats was the first time we got to meet, and it really was like a dream come true. That’s actually how Kevin and I became friends. I’m not sure if you watch Comic Book Men, but Walter and Bryan from the comic book store. Those three were friends and they all worked at the community center in Highlands where I grew up. I was like 4 or 5 years younger than all of those guys. They use to sit and read comics, and I use to harass them and they used to give me their old comics they didn’t want just to keep me “hey, get out of here. Read this and tell me what you thought. I’ve been into comics since I was like 13, and that’s how we all bonded, and then for years later to meet someone like Stan was surreal and amazing experience.”
As for Madness and the Method, the project stars Vinnie Jones, Kevin Smith, Teri Hatcher, Danny Trejo, Judd Nelson, Dean Cain, Casper Van Dien, Stan Lee, and Mewes as a serial killer in an alternate universe.
Jason Mewes will be appearing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at Wizard World Nashville, and you can watch the entire interview in the video above.
