Beginning with 1989’s The Trial of the Incredible Hulk, the video spans more than 20 years of Lee’s cameos in films and TV shows for both characters he created and in films he wasn’t otherwise involved with. For example, in 1995’s Mallrats, Lee shows up as himself and talks about an issue of Spider-Man while trying to help a man shop.
Then, in 2000, the modern Marvel movie cameos begin with X-Men, where Lee appears in the background among people on a beach witnessing a mutant. Two years late, he would appear in Spider-Man, followed by 2003’s Daredevil and Hulk movies. The Hulk cameo came with an appearance from the original Hulk, Lou Ferrigno, as well.
Reach 2008, and Lee is appearing in films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with the original Spider-Man trilogy having wrapped up a year earlier. In Iron Man, Tony Stark confuses Stan Lee for Hue Hefner and in the same year, the Marvel genius has himself a dangerous drink in The Incredible Hulk. In 2010, he poses as Larry King and in 2011, he tries to remove Thor‘s hammer with a pick up truck but has no luck, before appearing as a decorated war veteran in Captain America: The First Avenger.
Meanwhile, Sony Pictures was giving Spider-Man another go in the Amazing franchise, which offered a pair of cameos from Lee, before the wallcrawler folded into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Lee’s cameos aren’t limited to films, though. In 2013, he appeared on Agents of SHIELD and had a spot in Marvel’s The Runaways earlier this year.
Lee’s next cameo should arrive in the form of Black Panther before he inevitably appears in the biggest Marvel film to date with Avengers: Infinity War releasing on May 4, 2018.
