If you do a twitter search for #WeAreBarb, you'll find out that fans of Stranger Things love the no-nonsense attitude of Barb. While many movies and TV shows get decried for the "best friend" character, Barb is instead empowered and considered strong for her decisions - and her mom jeans.

"I think why people connect to her so much is she's so real and she's very unapologetic about who she is and what she likes to wear and the choices that she makes," actress Shannon Purser told Revelist about Barb and her sudden popularity. But for comicbook fans, Purser's dream role could be a dream come true for all of us, too.

"I think Squirrel Girl is just adorable but at the same time is totally boss and completely awesome," she said of her dream role. The actress is an avid fan of comics and cosplay, who has done some of the latter on her own throughout high school. "I think people need a character like that. It's easy in the superhero realm to feel like a lot of the female superheroes we see are grown women who are super responsible and know what their purpose is and that kind of thing. Squirrel Girl is a little bit younger and like a real person, trying to figure out her life and then also having to save the world. I love that."

Squirrel Girl is getting attention lately, both for her quirky series from Marvel Comics, and because actresses around the Hollywood industry expressing their desire to play her on the big screen. The way Purser owns Barb's quirks should make her an instant favorite to own Squirrel Girl's quirks in the eyes of fans, if not in the eyes of Marvel executives.
