Spoilers incoming for Uncanny Avengers #22, so if you haven’t read it yet you’ve been warned.
After successful surgery performed by Hank McCoy, Xavier’s brain is now out of the Red Skull and is handed to Rogue in a sealed container. As the team debates what to do with it and takes a brief moment to catch their breath, Captain America saunters into the medical facility to take ownership of Red Skull. The two sides exchange words, with some understandable friction due to Cap’s former role on the team. Cap was the one who put this squad together in the first place to retrieve Xavier’s brain from Skull, though that was before his Hydra days.
He gives Rogue an ultimatum, which Rogue deftly ignores and flies towards the sky with the container. She calls upon Human Torch to meet her in the sky, where she admits to some screwups in the past but also says “But Johnny, I ain’t’ wrong now. I need to end this.” When he asks if she’s sure, Rogue says “Yes. Send Charles home.”
Torch incinerates the container, with the ashes falling around them. Rogue takes a minute to ponder the final departing of her mentor and friend. That seems to be the end of his journey, but with comics you just never know. You can view the spoiler images in the gallery.
