In the face of a cosmic threat like Doctor Doom, even the mightiest heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe may prove to be outmatched. But how would they fare against another threat? With the power of a million exploding suns, Sentry’s reality-warping abilities, near unlimited strength, and mental instability make him a uniquely dangerous enemy that even the New Avengers/Thunderbolts could not best. While Doctor Doom will be the main challenge in Avengers: Doomsday, Bob/Sentry/The Void’s presence is a wildcard that could dismantle the superhero team. The last time audiences saw Bob (Lewis Pullman) was in the end credit scene of Thunderbolts*, where he was relaxing in The Watchtower (formerly Avengers Tower) and reading a book, purposely staying far away from any action due to his fear that he cannot control either Sentry or the Void.

With an absolutely stunning lineup, it’s easy to forget that there are more than a few important and powerful characters that have not been confirmed to appear in Doomsday. Three of these missing characters could be the key to defeating Sentry, should the unstable persona take over for Bob again.
1. Wanda Maximoff

Wanda’s reality-bending abilities and control of chaos magic would be the perfect foil for Sentry. Sentry’s power stems from a variant of the Super-Soldier serum, but his true weakness lies in his fractured psyche. The Void, his dark counterpart, is a manifestation of his mental instability. Wanda could use her hex magic to unravel his very being, separating Sentry from the Void and neutralizing his power without ever having to physically fight him.
Beyond her chaos magic, Wanda’s own experience with grief and mental manipulation makes her uniquely suited to handle Sentry’s psychological struggles. Instead of simply fighting him, she could enter his mindscape and help him reconcile with the Void in a way the Thunderbolts brought Bob back from the Void. Though it’s a solution that has been tried once, it is one that could save the day and prove that compassion is the ultimate strength.
2. Captain Marvel

Captain Marvel’s energy-absorbing and projecting capabilities are a perfect counter to Sentry’s powers. While Sentry can absorb and manipulate cosmic energy, Captain Marvel’s body is a conduit for a similar power source. A direct confrontation between the two would be a clash of godlike forces, with Carol Danvers having the potential to absorb and re-channel Sentry’s own energy against him.
Her cosmic awareness and tactical way of thinking also give her an edge against Sentry who has no real life experience. She is a seasoned warrior who has faced intergalactic threats far beyond the scope of what many of the other Avengers have ever seen. While Sentry may be more powerful physically, Captain Marvel’s experience, resolve, and abilities would allow her to counter any openings, turning his brute force against him.
3. Vision

Vision’s return is long overdue. Though audiences will see a version of him (White Vision) in the upcoming Disney+ series VisionQuest, Paul Bettany has not been confirmed as one of the returning cast members for Doomsday. Vision’s unique composition and skillset makes him a serious threat to Sentry. His ability to manipulate his density and phase through solid matter would essentially make Sentry’s physical attacks useless. His mind—having computer-like knowledge—would also allow him to predict Sentry’s movements and anticipate his attacks, turning the battle from a slugfest into one where strategy could easily overcome brute force.
If a variant of Vision with the Mind Stone still intact was in play, that power, combined with his synthetic nature, would make him resistant to Sentry’s psychic attacks. He has no mind to break and no fear to exploit. Vision’s compassion and intricate way of thinking would allow him to face Sentry without wavering, providing a beacon of hope against the darkness that Sentry represents.
