At the Disney Animation Presentation at D23, Disney chief creative officer John Lasseter followed up new information about Wreck-It Ralph 2 with details for the Incredibles, saying “We were wondering how the heck we were gonna follow that, so we’ll follow it with Incredibles 2,” Lasseter said. “There’s one character who is just so interesting from the Incredibles that people keep talking about…”
That would be none other than Edna, who became a fan favorite in the original film. She was revealed in a piece that took inspiration from Paris Fashion Week. After that, though it was time to get reacquainted with the family at the core of the film.
Director Brad Bird said “It’s so great to be here to tell you about the film. It’s fundamentally a story about family…with this new film, we’re excited to jump back into that world. We have controls able to do so much more than before.”
He revealed that the entire family is back, but that Jack Jack’s powers aren’t common knowledge.
“You the audience know that he has super powers but the family is unaware. We’re having fun with that in the film.”
Bird added “There’s an issue with the family’s house. So, the family has to get a new house. As you can see, it’s kind of a cross between a dream house and a super lair — a secret agents house or something. Water flows throughout the whole building and its made almost entirely of sharp corners which is not ideal for a baby.”
Baby proofing will need to be done, but that isn’t the only thing in store for an upgrade.
“The whole world of Incredibles 2 is gonna be greatly expanded upon,” Bird said, introducing an image of a hydra liner cruise-looking ship and a slew of super hero illustrations. “We’ll be seeing a lot more of Elastagirl,” with a chain of events putting her at the forefront of the film’s plot.
The cast includes Craig T. Nelson, Holly Hunter, Sarah Mount, Huck Milner, and Samuel L. Jackson.
