This weekend, the world was treated to yet another installment of the Fast and Furious franchise. The eighth film follows Dom’s group after the leader apparently goes dark side, leaving his former team to work alongside Deckard Shaw to bring down Dom and a new vixen named Cipher. The film, which was aptly titled the Fate of the Furious, has already broken some major box-office records, but it has done one far more important thing:

Shortly after the Fate of the Furious debuted, fans took to social media sites like Twitter to gush about the high-octane film. Audiences were sucked in by the movie’s over-the-top action, and its heart-wrenching storyline revolving Dom had fans going through emotional whiplash. Viewers were not afraid to sing the film’s praises online, and plenty of people imbued their tweets with the kind of humor that would have Letty laughing.

For Fast and the Furious, Vin Diesel is joined by a returning all-star cast that includes Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Nathalie Emmanuel, Elsa Pataky and Kurt Russell. In addition to Theron, the series welcomes newcomers Scott Eastwood and Oscar winner Helen Mirren. The film is directed by F. Gary Gray (Straight Outta Compton) and produced by returning producers Neal H. Moritz, Michael Fottrell and Diesel.
