KPop Demon Hunters is still crushing on streaming and the music charts, and that’s on top of the film’s impressive run at the box office after already being available for a lengthy amount of time on Netflix. While Golden still plays on speakers everywhere and shows no signs of stopping, KPop Demon Hunters‘ reign at the top of the Netflix movies chart now has. Granted, that was inevitable, even with KPop Demon Hunters’ immense popularity, but no one would have guessed at the “truly horrific” movie to take its place.

According to TUDUM’s Top 10 movies, the top spot goes to Unknown Number: The High School Catfish with 26.3 million views. That’s insanely impressive, but don’t be discouraged KPop fans, as Demon Hunters was right behind it with 25.4 million views, so there’s a chance it could even retake the top spot at a later date. The rest of the top 5 included The Thursday Murder Club (18.7 million), The Woman King (4 million), and the original Shrek (3.6 million).
Why Unknown Number: The High School Catfish Is So Horrifying

So why is Unknown Number: The High School Catfish making such a big impression? Well, there’s a good reason. For those unfamiliar with the topic of the documentary film, The High School Catfish is based on a true cyberbullying case that took place in Beal City, Michigan, in October of 2020. It tells the story of 13-year-old Lauryn Licari and her boyfriend of the time Owen, who started to receive texts from an unknown caller that included constant threats and insults over the span of around 15 months. Law enforcement would step in, and the investigation would lead to a twist that no one saw coming. There are spoilers incoming for the film from here on out, so be warned.
Given the true nature of these events and the effect they had on everyone involved, you can understand why the film is having an impact on so many, especially once the truth finally comes out. On Reddit, No-Introduction 1309 called the film “Truly horrific” and then also noted suspicions of some of the other people who were part of the investigation.
Able-Coffee3405 wrote, “I just finished it! I’m still trying to gather my jaw off the floor”, while bubbasnub credited the dad with taking action once the truth came out, writing, “I know we’re rightfully dunking on Kendra, but props to her ex-husband who got the news and was immediately like ‘You gotta go. Not sure who you’ll call, but you’re not staying here any more.’ Love the immediate and mature response from him. Lauren I think was shell-shocked and at her high school age still isn’t comprehending just how disturbing her mother and those actions are.”
Inevitable-Rich-8903 wrote, “Iโm also sitting here thinking ‘ wtf did I just watch’. I think she was jealous.” AnotherDarnDay responded and wrote, “She was somethingโฆ lordy I was shaking my head in disbelief through the entire thing.”
Unknown Number: The High School Catfish and KPop Demon Hunters are available to stream on Netflix.
