There are already story plans for Transformers 6 & 7 in place; there’s a Bumblebee spinoff movie that will be set in the 1980s, and there’s even another Transformers spinoff that could take place in ancient Rome. However, according to a new report, Transformers 6 is still trying to find a director to replace Michael Bay.

THR had a conversation with Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner, and during that convo, Goldner was asked point-blank about whether a director had been chosen for Transformers 6, since Michael Bay has publicly claimed that Transformers 5 is to be his final installment of the franchise.

According to Goldner, “There is not a director yet, but it’s certainly a date we believe we can achieve. We own several hundred characters in the mythology. People don’t know much about their home planet. We’re in the process of thinking about what is the next story to tell.”

There’s no telling if Goldner’s quote is also a hint of what the Transformers 6 story could be, as it sounds like the action could finally move from Earth to some location (or locations) in the cosmos. However, the director question is a big one.

On the one hand, Michael Bay Transformers movies are an entire billion-dollar brand; on the other hand, there are a potential new circle of fans who may be attracted to a Transformers movie helmed by a new director. Bay has as many detractors as he does supporters, but with the right director taking over the helm, both camps could potentially be lured into the theater.

…Of course, there’s always the possibility that Transformers 5 could earn enough at the box office to have that proverbial ‘dump truck full of money’ driven up to Michael Bay’s door, once again.

Who would you like to see direct Transformers 6? While we discuss that question, Transformers: The Last Knight is slowly creeping up the fan anticipation ratings, with a 3.91/5 ranking. Let us know how excited you are for the movie by ranking it below!
