In a lengthy Facebook post announcing candidacy for the Alaska State Legislature, an account apparently belonging to politician Bryan Box explained jumping from the Republican to Democratic Party exactly as you might imagine: with a reference to a 1985 Transformers episode.

Of course, right?

The Alaska Daily News's Nat Herz screen-grabbed the post and tweeted the image:

If that's too small for you (and I know it is for me), the note reads, in part:

"The current budget plan is untenable, and to spend an entire legislative session ignoring the problem of basing the majority of our budget on the revenue of a single industry and a rainy day savings accoung is reckless. Allowing this to continue will leave Alaska broke and too economically crippled to respond to the coming crisis of Anthropogenic Climate Change. I feel like that Decepticon jet plane in the 1980s Transformers cartoon who realized that he agree with the Autobots, and changed sides to save Optimus Prime's life.
Of course, he died at the end of the episode, but I'm pretty sure I can avoid that."

The jet plane in question is Skyfire, also known as Jetfire (both names have been attached to various characters or concepts over the decades, proving that Transformers continuity is almost as complicated as that of DC Comics or Marvel).

The first potential new constituent apparently thinks it's politics as usual.

"Blatant pro-Jetfire, pro-Generation 1 positioning," wrote Anchorage resident Joe Morrison. "Is Box an anti-Bay candidate? Can the others even handle this debate?"
