Did The Flash Use A Boom Tube In Batman V Superman?

When Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice stormed into theaters this past weekend, viewers got their first look at a number of other DC superheroes on the big screen, too.

Wonder Woman is the most obvious -- and the one who did the most -- but next up would be The Flash.

Ezra Miller's take on Barry Allen appeared twice -- once when Wonder Woman was looking through some decrypted files that Batman had sent her from Lex Luthor's server, and once in a vision, warning Batman about a coming danger.

Popping seemingly out thin air, The Flash addressed Bruce Wayne by name, saying among other things that "Lois Lane is the key," "you were always right about him," and "You have to find us."

"Us," in this case, is taken to be the metahumans Lex Luthor had been tracking -- all four of whom will be a part of the Justice League when the team's movie comes out next year.

Becuase so much of Batman's "Knightmare" dream sequences seem to revolve around Jack Kirby's New Gods, it's not an unreasonable question to ask whether The Flash's sudden appearance in Batman's dream may have been via Boom Tube, the super-science teleportation medium favored by the Fourth World characters of Apokolips and New Genesis.

I'm thinking, in this case, the answer is no.

Rather, it sure looked to me like it was a nod to Crisis on Infinite Earths, where Barry Allen ran into the speed force, and periodically popped out, intangible and desperately trying to warn heroes of an oncoming danger.

The first time he did so, pictured above and revisited decades later in the Justice League story The Lightning Saga, was his appearance to Batman.

Since traveling through the Speed Force could also mean traveling through time, it may be interesting to see whether The Flash could have another, similar cameo in Wonder Woman, which is said to be set mostly in 1918.

There's an argument to be made that the Boom Tube theory makes as much or more sense, given that Barry was essentially a ghost when popping in and out of the Speed Force, and he clearly makes papers fly around in the Batcave during his visit in Batman V Superman, but your mileage may vary on that, and I tend to lean more toward the Speed Force being depicted a little bit differently in the movies versus the comics on that one.
