It's that time of year. Let's all wish James Cameron a very happy birthday as the director turns 62 years old today!

Born in August 1954, James was raised by his parents Shirley and Phillip in Ontario, Canada. Growing up, James drifted between his interests as he eventually dropped out of college and worked as a truck driver. However, it was after seeing Star Wars in 1977 that James decided he would pursue filmmaking professionally. Much of his early career found James working behind-the-scenes as he learned camera techniques before his work hit Hollywood.

Well-known for his script writing, James is famous for creating The Terminator and directing it. The film became a massive box-office hit, and it allowed James to pursue future endeavors like Aliens and Titanic.

Of course, fans will also know James from his work on Avatar. The film impressed both critics and fans alike as the project was almost done completely with CG animation. Both the writer and director, James went on to confirm that Avatar was the first of several films which would collectively create an Avatar saga.

Obviously, you can't talk about James' accomplishments without talking money. His directorial work has grossed over $6 billion worldwide, and without inflation adjustment, his films Titanic and Avatar as the two highest-grossing films ever. Clearly, that's a lot of dough to be breaking in.

When he's not directing multi-billion dollar projects, James enjoys studying marine biology and even stands as one of only three people who've ever reached the bottom of the Mariana Trench, the deepest known area of the ocean.
