Chewbacca Mask Lady Is Most Watched Facebook Live Video In History

On Thursday, Candace Payne went to Kohl's to return clothes that didn't fit, and while she was in the department store, she came across Hasbro's Chewbacca mask. She bought the item, hopped in her car, and recorded a video showing off her new purchase. When she placed the mask upon her head for the first time, she laughed with glee as the mask's mouth opened and emitted the Wookiee's signature roar.

After she uploaded the video, titled "The simple joys in life," it immediately went viral. As I write this, the video has over 120 million views and 2.2 million shares. Wow! That makes her video the most watched Facebook Live video of all time!

The video got the attention of Peter Mayhew, the actor who has portrayed Chewbacca in the Star Wars film franchise. Earlier today, Mayhew tweeted, "This lady is still making me smile. Lovely video to come out on my birthday."

It also got the attention of Kohl's, and to thank Payne for the free-advertisement, several of their employees showed up at her home with gifts for her, her husband, and their children. Her family was given lots of Star Wars toys, including Chewbacca masks for the entire family, $2,500 worth of gift cards, and 10,000 reward points.
