Stephen Amell has a grueling schedule playing Oliver Queen and his heroic alterego the Green Arrow on The CW’s Arrow, but the actor is excited for his big-screen turn in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows. He’s so excited for his role as Casey Jones, he told Comicbook.com over the phone, that he’s already looking forward to the future.

“I mean, how much time do you have?” Amell said with a laugh when asked what aspects of Jones he’d like to explore in potential sequels. “We set him up in this movie as a guy who is trying to find ‘where’s my path? What should I do?’”
There’s actually more Casey in deleted scenes that will appear on the Blu-ray and DVD, Amell revealed, including a scene that takes place after the final scene in the film.
“There’re so many places that we can take this character. I feel like we did a nice job of introducing him and giving people glimpses of Casey Jones, but there’s way more to do,” Amell teased. The actor said he’s “1000%” ready to do more Jones, and in fact, he signed on for several films when he signed his contract.
“When you sign up for movies like this nowadays, you sign up for like 9 movies. And if my wife and I have a son next, Paramount gets the kid โ you pretty much sign away everything,” the actor joked.
“I like the fact that his heart’s probably a little bit bigger than his brain,” Amell said, again with a laugh. Casey Jones is, he says, more close to the actor himself than other roles he has played, like Oliver Queen. “He makes a lot of mistakes, but they come from a place of enthusiasm, a place of good intention, and that makes him easy to forgive. I found him to be a likeable guy. You never know what it’s going to be like for a role, but I had a blast playing this character. I have an awesome time playing Oliver Queen and shooting Arrow, but, man, I had a f***ing great time playing Casey Jones.”
Fans will see that from the moment he first shares screentime with the mutant fighting machines.
“[I’m most excited for] the scene where Casey meets the Turtles โ every way he reacts to the Turtles is fundamentally different from anything I ever do on Arrow. Just in general, people that know me and a lot of Arrow fans that know me from the media and seeing stuff that I’ve done, know that I’m a pretty happy-go-lucky guy. Oliver Queen is actually very far from who I am, whereas Casey Jones, on the other hand, I feel a kinship to Casey Jones. I feel like there’s a lot of me in him.”
“All the stunts that Casey does in the movie are incredibly practical, so from that standpoint it was actually quite similar to Arrow. What it comes back to with the Turtles, people think we’re just acting with bluescreens or stuff like that, but Noel [Fisher, Michelangelo], and Jeremy [Howard, Donatello], and Pete [Ploszek, Leonardo] and Alan [Ritchson, Raphael] bring so much to the four Turtles,” he said. “It’s very, very easy to act with them and react to them. As long as you remember you can’t look them in the eyes โ you have to look at the ping pong balls above their heads, once you get around that part of it the rest is easy.”
Amell enjoyed being able to stretch out scenes and having “so much time to get it right” in comparison to a TV series.
“At Arrow, it’s exceedingly rare that we have anything less than a 12 hour day, and we usually go right to the 14 hour mark. The fact that we have more time allows it to be a little more collaborative, a little more artistic,” he said. The luxury of a 10 or 11 hour workday was never lost on him.
Amell stars as Casey Jones alongside Megan Fox, Noel Fisher, Jeremy Howard, Pete Ploszek, Alan Ritchson, Will Arnett, Stephen Farrelly, Gary Anthony Williams, Tyler Perry, and more in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, in theaters June 3, 2016.
