The 52-year-old actor will be portraying Guy Le Franc, a former hockey player and current mayor of a Quebec Canadien border town, according to Deadline.
The comedy group responsible for the first film, Broken Lizard, recently posted a picture on Facebook showing that production had officially commenced for the upcoming film. The Broken Lizard team consists of Jay Chandrasekhar (Thorny), Steve Lemme (Mac), Erik Stolhanske (Rabbit), Kevin Heffernan (Farva), and Paul Soter (Foster), all of whom are returning to the sequel in both writing and acting roles.
Back in March, the comedy group set up an IndieGogo campaign to raise funds for the movie. In only 30 days, they soared past their $2 million goal by bringing in a total of $4.4 million.
The boys from Broken Lizard mentioned that the more money that people would donate, then the more that the production would have the budget to spend on “bigger stunts, bathrooms for the women on set (men will still have to use the woods), louder explosions, cameos from real Hollywood actors, more bearf*cking, and maybe Kate Upton.”
Clearly, some of that fundraising has gone to lock down a Hollywood heavyweight in Rob Lowe.
Directed by Jay Chandrasekhar, Super Troopers was released in February of 2002. The film first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2001 as the rights were later acquired by Fox Searchlight for $2.5 million. Upon its release, the movie would go on to bring in $18.5 million at the domestic box office.
