John Carpenter In The Dark About Big Trouble In Little China Remake

When you've been around Hollywood as long as John Carpenter has, you not only become a bit of an iconoclast, but it's almost inevitable that people will start remaking or reimagining your work.

Having Hollywood made big-budget remakes of Halloween, Assault on Precinct 13, The Fog, and The Thing, to varying degrees of critical and commercial success, it seems that a long-rumored remake of the cult classic Big Trouble in Little China is on the way.

But don't ask Carpenter about it; the filmmaker isn't being consulted on the new film, he told Screen Rant.

"It might be crazy," Carpenter said. "It might be great! I don't know. Nobody's told me anything. No one tells me anything."

Back in June, Carpenter didn't seem all that surprised that he hadn't yet had a conversation with the remake's star, Dwayne Johnson, but now he seems a little more surprised that "no one's talked to me about it."

Carpenter had an advisory role on BOOM! Studios's recent comic book based on Big Trouble in Little China, although he didn't have a writer credit or day to day involvement.

The film is an '80s classic which centers on trucker Jack Burton, who helps his friend Wang Chi rescue his (Wang's) fiancee from kidnappers in San Francisco's Chinatown. As the story develops, Burton and Wnag go beneath Chinatown to face an ancient sorcerer named David Lo Pan, who hopes to use Wang's fiancee to release himself from a centuries-old curse.

There's no known release date for the upcoming remake.
