Brendan Dassey, the now famous ex-prisoner from Netflix's Making a Murderer, was ordered released from prison Monday pending his appeal.
Dassey was 16 when accused of helping uncle, Steven Avery, rape and kill 25-year-old photographer Teresa Halbach, who went missing in November 2005, and dispose of her body in Manitowoc County, Wisconsin.
His attorneys argued that he should be released based on a judge's finding that the court had "significant doubts" about confession conducted investigators and its validity. The 2006 interrogation implicated Dassey assisted with the killing.
Earlier this year, a judge ruled that Dassey's conviction should be thrown out, but the state has appealed that ruling. According to NBC station TMJ4, Dassey's release came with multiple conditions, including that he only travel in the court's Eastern District of Wisconsin. Dassey cannot obtain a passport, possess weapons, and can't have any contact with his uncle or the Halbach family.

For those who do not follow Making a Murderer closely, Steven Avery was put in prison for the murder of Teresa Halbach. There was heavy controversy around all of the evidence submitted by the police, but one of the items that resulted in Avery's conviction was the blood of his that was found at the crime scene.
Avery, Dassey's uncle, is currently serving a life sentence without parole, is requesting that the state of Wisconsin perform radiocarbon testing in order to reveal the age of his blood that was found at the crime scene in 2005, according to TMZ. Over the course of the series, Avery always claimed that the blood was planted by the cops and that the sample found at the crime scene was drawn from him years earlier when he was serving time for a rape conviction.
The rape conviction from 1985 was eventually overturned after evidence exonerated Avery from the crime. If Avery and his lawyers are successful, this will be the second time that DNA testing has cleared him of a serious offense.
