Ever since he first starred in the original A Nightmare on Elm Street in 1984, Robert Englund will be the one and only Freddy Krueger to millions of horror fans. His terrifyingly comical performance instantly made Krueger an icon in the annals of horror, going on to perform the character in multiple sequels over the course of decades. With a new coming in 2018, with no new Nightmare on Elm Street on the horizon, and with Donald Pleasence having passed away, fans have started a campaign to get Englund into the franchise and think they have the perfect character in mind.

Throughout the course of the Halloween franchise, the one character who always attempted to find the humanity in the seemingly inhuman Michael Myers was Dr. Loomis, originally played by Donald Pleasence. Loomis worked with Myers while he was institutionalized and tried to uncover what caused the young boy the murder his sister on Halloween night. In the two Rob Zombie-directed Halloween films, the iconic role was played by Malcolm McDowell.
Horror fans took to Change.org in hopes of showing the upcoming filmmakers of the new Halloween film how desperate they are to have Englund considered to play this role. At this point, writers/directors David Gordon Green and Danny McBride haven’t revealed whether or not their story will even have this character in it, but horror fans clearly want to be proactive about getting the genre icon involved in some way.
There’s no denying how talented Englund is and how important of a role Dr. Loomis played in the Halloween films, but it’s tough to say whether or not Englund’s appearance will help or hurt the sequel, slated for a 2018 release. Included has had cameo roles in countless horror movies due to his legacy, but almost every time he pops up on screen, many people think, “Hey look, it’s Robert Englund!” instead of staying engaged in the film. If any of those characters had been played by unknown actors, it would’ve completely changed the interpretation of those characters and their importance to the story.
If you’d like to sign the petition, you can voice your opinion on Change.org.
Let us know who you think should play Dr. Loomis in the new Halloween film or if the character shouldn’t be involved at all in the comments!
