Before taking a jab at Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in his opening monologue, host Jimmy Fallon kicked off the 74th Annual Golden Globe Awards with a star-studded and fun musical cold open — which he worked on for the past four months.
The pre-filmed intro parodied the seven-time-nominated musical La La Land and began with Fallon singing and dancing with big screen celebrities Nicole Kidman and Amy Adams, as well as small screen stars from The People v. O.J. Simpson (Sarah Paulson, Sterling K. Brown, Courtney B. Vance, and John Travolta), Westworld (Evan Rachel Wood), Mr. Robot (Rami Malek), Game of Thrones (Kit Harington), and Stranger Things (Millie Bobby Brown, Shannon Purser, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, and Gaten Matarazzo). It finished up strong with appearances from Tina Fey and Justin Timberlake.

Millie Bobby Brown Raps
The Stranger Things kids rap and sing in the opening segment for the Golden Globes. This was so good. I love it. Barb is still alive. pic.twitter.com/wR4tZzUPvX— Matt || rip carrie (@adoringajlee) January 9, 2017
After becoming the breakout star of Netflix's Stranger Things, Millie Bobby Brown performed Nicki Minaj's verses from Kanye West's "Monster" at comic book conventions and during the casts appearance on The Tonight Show.
In the Golden Globes open, she -- with a little help at the end from several of her young castmembers -- busted out a Stranger Things-centric rap.
"My name is Eleven / I’m 24/7," she rapped. "I eat Eggo waffles by the pound / I got a knack for rapping about Stranger Things that happen inside the Upside-Down / You're my best friends forever, Dustin, Mike and Lucas and together we know how to survive / And I got a little secret, don't repeat it, better mean it, Barb is still alive!"prevnext
After Brown spit out that last verse, the camera panned to a pool where Shannon Purser emerged from the water in her unflattering (and dry) Barb wardrobe. She twirled around as multiple versions of her Tonight Show-lookalike swam around her.
Spoilers! In the first season of Stranger Things, Barb was dragged into an empty pool and killed by a faceless beast from the Upside-Down. It's was a nice nod to the silly uproar fans voiced because her disappearance didn't receive as much attention in the show as Will's did.prevnext
Kit Harington Comes to Life
As a nod to Jon Snow's much talked about resurrection on the past season of Game of Thrones, a tuxedo-clad Kit Harington was shown dead asleep in the back of a limo. He suddenly awakens from his slumber when a car horn begins to blare. He turns to the camera and sings with a smile, "The Golden Globes have just begun!"prevnext
Ryan Reynolds Spits a Mint
The segment then slowed to a crawl as Fallon tickled the ivories. When Fallon looks up, he sees Ryan Reynolds laying across the piano and looking longingly into his eyes. The Deadpool star whistles along to the tune, and when Fallon compliments Reynolds on his minty-fresh breath, Reynolds shows him the mint he has been sucking on and spits it into Fallon's mouth. Gross! Awesome!prevnext
Justin Timberlake's Jimmy Fallon Impression
A Fallon performance wouldn't be complete without his good friends and frequent collaborators Tina Fey and Justin Timberlake. To close out the cold open, Fey and Fallon kept up their faux will-they/won't-they thing by having the 30 Rock star profess her love for late night talk show host. As he eagerly walks towards Fey, appearing as though he'll kiss her, he pushes past her and instead has a tender moment with Timberlake. They then have a La La Land-inspired dance among the stars.prev
