The hits keep on coming in 2016 as another icon has passed away. Michu Meszaros, the actor who brought Alf to life in the famous ’80s sitcom, has died at the age of 76. About a week ago, Meszaros was reportedly found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home. Since, her spent several days in a coma before ultimately passing away.

Standing at just 2 feet 9 inches tall, the Hungarian born Meszaros performed in the circus before finding himself on TV. He was dubbed the “smallest man in the world” while working at the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus in the ’70s. His performances were watched by presidents Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan, in addition to the ultimate performer, Michael Jackson, who would become close friends with Meszaros.

Of course, Meszaro’s is best known for his role as Alf. The alien, which was voiced by Paul Fusco, was rarely shown below the waist, with puppeteers controlling his movements. However, when shots requiring Alf’s whole body would come up, Meszaros appeared on camera wearing a full-body costume. Alf aired from 1986 to 1990.

In the 1980s’ the city of Hawthorne, California named their shortest street in the City “Michu Lane” in honor of the performer.
