He's one of the greatest songwriters in movie history. Together with his brother Robert, Richard M. Sherman played a significant role in launching the heyday of Walt Disney Studios and Walt Disney Animation Studios. Without their songs, movies like Mary Poppins, The Aristocats, The Jungle Book, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and many more wouldn't be as instantly recognizable as they are. Even walking around a Disney park, when you hear songs like "There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow" or the unforgetably catchy "it's a small world (after all)," you're witnessing the genius of the Sherman brothers.

Well, at the age of 88, Richard M. Sherman still has his magic, and director Jon Favreau called upon him once again while making the live-action/CGI hybrid 2016 edition of The Jungle Book. With the new 3D blu-ray Collector's Edition of The Jungle Book hitting shelves November 15, 2016, Disney is celebrating with a sneak peek at the special features in the collection. One of those features is all about Mr. Sherman, as he came back to Disney to help write new lyrics and revamp the tone of the classic, "I Wanna Be Like You."

Sung by Christopher Walken's King Louie in the film, the song is played with a slightly more sinister flair than it was in the 1967 animated film, something you can see directed by Favreau in our exclusive clip above. Sherman seemed to instantly fall back into the song-writing groove, and delighted in the chance to bring the music to life in another way. His delivery at the end is astonishing, and you can definitely hear his influence in the end result as performed by Walken in the movie.

Watch the clip above for an inside look, then pick up The Jungle Book 3D Blu-ray Collector's Edition next week to see the entire feature, along with several other new special features.

The Jungle Book was the latest of Disney's "live-action fairy tale" remakes, and was a massive hit, pulling in over $966 million at worldwide box office as part of Disney's record-setting box office domination in 2016. The next live action fairy tale is Beauty and the Beast, which also saw its composer, Alan Menken, return for new tweaks to the classic numbers.
