Tom Cruise is the man of many franchises, and returns to the role of Jack Reacher in this year’s Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. The movie shot in New Orleans, and People Magazine had the first look from the film, which also stars Avengers alum Cobie Smulders.

Director Edward Zwick has the same impression of Tom Cruise as many others who’ve worked with the actor, now fifty-three years old and somehow a bigger action star than ever before. “I’ve never seen anybody more prepared both physically and mentally than Tom. He’s tireless and unbelievably focused,” Zwick said. “It’s a pretty boring job to be Tom’s stunt double. He did all of his own stunts. It’s almost a hallmark of what he does. He does every bit of it himself.”
Indeed, Cruise famously did his own stunts in last year’s Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation, including a stunt where he actually hung from a real airplane’s doorway as it took off – a stunt revealed even in early promotional materials for that film.
The Jack Reacher sequel to the 2012 film, based once again on the Lee Child novel series, sees Cruise’s titular character helping Cobie Smulders, playing an Army major accused of spying break her case. She too “didn’t use a stunt double” Zwick said.
