The Ghost in the Shell franchise has gone through many iterations over the years, but one thing that has remained consistent is its futuristic, cyberpunk setting.

That setting remains the backdrop of DreamWork’s 2017 live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, starring Scarlett Johansson.
Designing such a futuristic setting is a unique challenge and opportunity for Ghost in the Shell‘s production designers, but they seem more than up to the task. Ghost in the Shell is based on the cyberpunk manga created by Masamune Shirow. The same manga inspired the seminal 1995 anime Ghost in the Shell movie. The trailer debuted at a live event in Tokyo, Japan
Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, Ghost in the Shell follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic’s advancements in cyber technology.
