Ghost In The Shell Concept Art Unveils Cyberpunk Secrets

The Ghost in the Shell franchise has gone through many iterations over the years, but one thing that has remained consistent is its futuristic, cyberpunk setting.

That setting remains the backdrop of DreamWork's 2017 live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, starring Scarlett Johansson.

Designing such a futuristic setting is a unique challenge and opportunity for Ghost in the Shell's production designers, but they seem more than up to the task. If the film's first trailer wasn't proof of that enough, take a look at some concept art that will be featured in Insight Edition's upcoming book The Art of Ghost in the Shell. Ghost in the Shell is based on the cyberpunk manga created by Masamune Shirow. The same manga inspired the seminal 1995 anime Ghost in the Shell movie. The trailer debuted at a live event in Tokyo, Japan

Based on the internationally-acclaimed sci-fi property, Ghost in the Shell follows the Major, a special ops, one-of-a-kind human-cyborg hybrid, who leads the elite task force Section 9. Devoted to stopping the most dangerous criminals and extremists, Section 9 is faced with an enemy whose singular goal is to wipe out Hanka Robotic's advancements in cyber technology.

Ghost in the Shell is directed by Rupert Sanders, from a screenplay written by Jonathan Herman and Jamie Moss.

Ghost in the Shell stars Scarlett Johansson as The Major, Pilou Asbæk as Batou, Takeshi Kitano as Chief Daisuke Aramaki, Chin Han as Togusa, Michael Pitt as Kuze, and Juliette Binoche as Dr. Ouelet.

Ghost in the Shell opens in theaters March 31, 2017.
