Most famously known as Khal Drogo in HBO’s Game of Thrones, and soon-to-be the King of the Seven Seas Aquaman in the upcoming Justice League movie franchise (as well as his own), Jason Momoa is on the verge of becoming a household name, but today we celebrate his birthday.

Born in Honolulu, Momoa began his acting career on Baywatch Hawaii, which eventually led to him gaining the part of Ronon on Stargate: Atlantis (almost foreshadowing, huh?) for five seasons. After Atlantis wrapped, Momoa auditioned for the role of Khal Drogo for Game of Thrones by performing a war dance known as a Haka instead of doing the scene in the script that was provided.

His fierceness and aggressive attitude helped him score the part and even though his time on the show was very limited, he made himself known to a larger audience and left an impression on fans.

While Momoa’s Aquaman still has a while before sailing off into his own solo flick, his appearance in the Justice League trailer has fans hopeful that his rendition will make everybody forget the Aquaman jokes of yesteryear.

Happy birthday, sir!
