The first season of AMC's Preacher wrapped upin a rather explosive way last night and we're already hearing about things to come in the show's second season. As Season 1 ended where the original Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon comic book series began, it shouldn't be surprising to hear that Herr Starr, one of the comic book series' earliest villains, will be featured in Season 2.
In teasing the comic book characters that will appear in Season 2, Executive Producer Sam Catlin told Deadline that one will be "the figure in white, and fanboys will know who that is. They've already seen the character briefly."
That brief moment was in the cold open to Episode 3, "The Possibilities." In that scene, Tulip meets with a friend, Danni, after coming across some paperwork from a company called Grail Industries. Danni brings this information to a man dressed in a white suit who is enjoying what sounds like a snuff film. The figure leaves, donning a wide brim hat. The white suit look matches that of Herr Starr from the comics.
Herr Starr is the ambitious second in command of the secret society called The Grail. The Grail is tasked with protecting the bloodline of Jesus Christ – that's right, Jesus married and had kids – and has amassed an incredible amount of power in the process. Herr Starr reports directly to the leader of The Grail, the Allfather, who has plans for Jesse Custer and Genesis.
But the Grail will have to get in line if they want a shot at Custer. Heaven still wants Genesis back, and now the Saint of Killers is on Jesse's trail. Sounds like things are going to get hectic in Preacher Season 2.
Preacher returns to AMC in 2017.
