Idris Elba Teases Stephen King's The Dark Tower Movie

Over the weekend, Pacific Rim star Idris Elba, who will play the role of Roland Deschain in The Dark Tower, quietly released what may be the first official teaser art from the film.

If it isn't, it's just cool fan art. Either way, Elba is getting into the spirit of the film on social media.

Elba won the coveted role and will star opposite Matthew McConaughey, who was offered the role of the Man in Black in The Dark Tower around the same time as he was offered Randall Flagg in The Stand at another studio. Ironically, in the world of Stephen King's novels, those characters are generally understood to be different aspects of the same antagonist.

The Dark Tower series tells the story of Roland Deschain, Mid-World’s last gunslinger, who is traveling southeast across Mid-World’s post-apocalyptic landscape, searching for the powerful but elusive magical edifice known as The Dark Tower. Located in the fey region of End-World, amid a sea of singing red roses, the Dark Tower is the nexus point of the time-space continuum. It is the heart of all worlds, but it is also under threat. Someone, or something, is using the evil technology of the Great Old Ones to destroy it.

The film stars Idris Elba stars as Roland Deschain and Matthew McConaughey as the Man in Black. The cast also includes Kathryn Winnick, Fran Kranz, Abbey Lee, and Jackie Earle Haley.

The Dark Tower film is shooting now for a January 13, 2017 release.
