In the conclusion of The Matrix trilogy, Neo ultimately died in order to end the war, procuring peace between man and machine. However, The Wachowskis left a sliver of hope that Neo would return one day when Sati (Tanveer K. Atwal) asked in the final moments of The Matrix Revolutions (2003), "Will we ever see him again?" To which the Oracle (Mary Alice) replied, "I suspect so. Someday."
And while we did get a Matrix reunion of sorts in John Wick 2, seeing Keanu Reeves share the screen with Laurence Fishburne once again, it would be more exciting to see if Warner Bros. could talk the franchise's creators and stars to come back for another installment. Based on the fact that trilogy grossed $1.6 billion at the worldwide box office, it's probably something the studio has considered.
Would Reeves want to add another chapter in the series? Yup! But he has several conditions that would need to be met before he signs on for The Matrix 4.
"The Wachowskis would have to be involved," he told Yahoo Movies. "They would have to write it and direct it. And then we'd see what the story is, but yeah, I dunno, that'd be weird, but why not?" He added, "People die, stories don't, people in stories don't."
John Wick: Chapter 2 is directed by Chad Stahelski and written by Derek Kolstad. The film stars Keanu Reeves, Common, Laurence Fishburne, Riccardo Scamarcio, Ruby Rose, John Leguizamo, and Ian McShane. It's now playing at your local theater!
