Lionsgate is a studio in need of a power house franchise. Its Hunger Games saga concluded last year and the Divergent series is not performing as well as the studio may have hoped. Next year, they're hoping to launch a new franchise with Power Rangers.

The studio has told analysts they are hoping to make "five, six, or seven of them," in reference to Power Rangers movies. In a world of movie universes, solo Power Rangers adventures or full length adventures with side characters or even villains is not an unfathomable idea.

Lionsgate has less budget this year but more product and is confident in films like LaLa Land, Nerve and Now You See Me 2 to perform well at the box office in 2016. However, when 2017 rolls around, they're hoping the Power Rangers film will take take the studio into the plentiful world of a successful franchise.

The costumes for the Power Rangers film were recently revealed and received a lackluster response from fans. Many compared the look to Iron Man and criticized the major differences in comparison to the classic and long running kids series from which the movie is based.

Power Rangers will star Naomi Scott, Becky G., RJ Cyler, Ludi Lin, and Dacre Montgomery as the Pink, Yellow, Blue, Black, and Red Rangers, respectively. Elizabeth Banks takes on the role of Rita Repulsa and additional cast members include David Denman, Patrick Sabongui, Lisa Berry, and Anjali Jay. Power Rangers is written by John Gatins, Ashley Miller, Matt Sazama, Burk Sharpless, and Zack Stentz based on the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers series created by Suki Levy and Haim Saban. It is directed by Dean Israelite.
