Your old MySpace crush is back, and this time, she's...apparently trying to save the world?

Lonelygirl15, the first viral success of the YouTube age, returned after a seven-year absence this week.

The Internet video sensation, who launched what at first seemed to be a simple vlog but later became an elaborate story of adventure, murder, and intrigue, had left to pursue other interests; series star Jessica Rose would go on to appear in a number of TV and webseries following the end of Lonelygirl15, including a much-loved fan film based on the cult-hit comic book series ElfQuest by Wendy and Richard Pini.

Picking up on a plot thread from the original series, Rose appears in this new video, seemingly as her old character Bree and apparently brainwashed by The Order, a cult from which she was on the run in Lonelygirl15. Her "trait-positive" blood was of interest to them, and during the new video, fans have found various clues to a larger mystery that's apparently fueling the new storyline.

Lonelygirl15 became a viral breakout hit with her charming, quirky YouTube videos, and then gained worldwide media attention and divided her fan base when Rose was outed as an actor and "Bree" as a fictional character.

Since the end of the series, the producers behind Lonelygirl15 have created a number of spinoffs, both as webseries in the U.S. and Europe and in the form of interactive online entertainment like games or websites.

One of those spinoffs, LG15: The Resistance, featured writing by Joshua Hale Fialkov, who has written comics like Ultimate FF, The Life After, and I, Vampire, and wrote the film Infected.

While it seems clear the new video is teasing...something...it's not yet evident what it will be. There's some symmetry to that, of course, as the earliest rumblings in the fan community that Lonelygirl15 may not have been on the level were then accompanied by wild speculation as to just what the nature of the videos was.

Have at it, commenters!
