CBS's MacGyver reboot has gotten off to a strong start courtesy of its 11 year high ratings premiere, and many are receiving Lucas Till's version of the character with open arms. If the show has its way, though, fans could see the original MacGyver join the show in a recurring role.

Showrunner Peter M. Lenkov was recently asked by EW about the possibility of original actor Richard Dean Anderson appearing on the show at some point, and according to Lenkov he has the perfect part for Anderson if he wants it.

"He's being very kind to us because he's allowing us to step out of the gate on our own," Lenkov says. "Hopefully, after we get up and running, he'll come and join us. That's what I'm hoping. We have a role, and it's a great role. It's recurring and I'm hoping he says yes to it."

Anderson held the role of MacGyver from 1985 until the show's conclusion in 1992, and the show is still widely circulated in syndication. Longtime fans of the franchise would love to see Anderson in a recurring role, so hopefully he decides to jump in soon.

A reimagining of the classic series, is an action-adventure drama about 20-something Angus "Mac" MacGyver, who creates the Department of External Services (DXS), a clandestine organization within the U.S. government where he uses his extraordinary talent for unconventional problem-solving and vast scientific knowledge to save lives. Joining his team on high-risk missions around the globe is maverick former CIA agent Jack Dalton; Patricia Thornton, an ex-field agent turned director of operations; and Riley Davis, an unpredictable computer hacker with a chip on her shoulder. At home, MacGyver is entertained by his ambitious roommate, Wilt Bozer. Under the aegis of the Department of External Services, MacGyver takes on the responsibility of saving the world, armed to the teeth with resourcefulness and little more than bubble gum and a paper clip.

MacGyver stars Lucas Till (Angus MacGyver), George Eads (Jack Dalton), Sandrine Holt (Patricia Thornton), Tristin Mays (Riley Davis), Justin Hires (Wilt Bozer), and Aina Dumlao (Andie Lee).

MacGyver airs on Fridays at 8/7 cst on CBS.
