While the Mayans MC pilot is set to wrap up filming this week, there are still plenty of casting decisions to be made. On Wednesday, it was announced that a key series member had been added to the ensemble, and this new character would provide some trouble for the Mayans.
According to THR, Maurice Compte has joined the Sons Of Anarchy spin-off series as a hardened DEA agent.
Compte will play a highly regarded DEA agent tasked to bring down Miguel Castillo, the Galindo Cartel kingpin. However, his pursuit of Castillo isn't just his job, it's an obsession, driven by personal demons. If Mayans MC is picked up to series, Compte would recur.
Compte was featured in 11 episodes of the Netflix crime drama Narcos, and he has also appeared on Criminal Minds, From Dusk Til Dawn, and Breaking Bad.
The announcement also revealed that a previously announced role had been re-cast. While it was first reported that Andrea Londo was initially set to portray the character of Carnalita, that role has now been filled by Venezuelan actress Carla Baratta.
The Mayans MC pilot is currently in Los Angeles. Sons Of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter is directing the episode, with a script written by showrunner Elgin James. If picked up to series, the show will likely air on FX this fall. The cast for the series includes JD Pardo, Antonio Jaramillo, Clayton Cardenas, John Ortiz, Richard Cabral, Sarah Bolger, and Edward James Olmos.
Set in the aftermath of Jax Teller's death at the end of SOA's seven-season run in 2014, Mayans MC will focus on the struggles of Ezekiel "EZ" Reyes, a prospect in the Mayan MC charter on the California/Mexico border. EZ is the gifted son of a proud Latino family, whose American dream was snuffed out by cartel violence. Now, his need for vengeance drives him toward a life he never intended and can never escape.
