Davis and writer Andrew Cochran will adapt the ever-popular story portraying the conflict between man and extraterrestrial, according to Hollywood Reporter.
The story was first published in 1897. War of the Worlds has been adapted dozens of times for the big screen, small screen, radio, and various other features. The most notable film adaptation of the story was a 2005 release directed by Steven Spielberg featured Tom Cruise and Dakota Fanning in the lead roles.
The first adaptation, 1953’s Paramount movie directed by Byron Haskin, starred Gene Barry. The forthcoming project from MTV will join Jeff Davis with The Firm’s Jeff Kwatinez and Josh Barry (Gene’s grandson). Other projects from The Firm include Salem, Notorious, and Haters Back Off.
In addition to War of the Worlds, TV audiences can expect to see a heavy amount of reboot shows in the near future. The list of some of the notable reboot shows includes: Dynasty (The CW), Magnum P.I. (ABC), The Lost Boys (CW), Varsity Blues (CMT), The Departed (Amazon), Let the Right One In (TNT), and L.A. Law. The latter of which does not have a networked attached at the moment.
Interestingly, ABC is set to debut a series titled Time After Time. The upcoming drama from Kevin Williamson will follow the adventures of a young H.G. Wells.
Jeff Davis’ current MTV smash hit series, Teen Wolf, is headed towards its sixth and final season in 2017. Davis is also responsible for creating CBS’ flagship drama Criminal Minds.
