They’re also bringing back everyone’s favorite scientific adventure series – The Magic School Bus.
Today, the network announced that Ms. Frizzle, the wild and wacky teacher of the class, has been cast. SNL star Kate McKinnon will play the role.
McKinnon is recognized by most for her lead role in the popular sketch-comedy series Saturday Night Live, but has also started appearing more and more in film roles. She starred in 2016’s Ghostbusters reboot, and had a major role in the recent comedy Masterminds.
The Magic School Bus ran on PBS from 1994-1997, and focused on Ms. Frizzle taking her 3rd grade class on field trips, using her magical bus. The class went to far away lands, exotic locales, and even inside the human body.
Legendary actress Lily Tomlin voiced the original Ms. Frizzle. Tomlin earned an Emmy award for her voicing of the character.
The new Netflix series will be called The Magic School Bus Rides Again, and continue to focus on Ms. Frizzle’s adventures. Unlike the first series, the Netflix show will transition to the use of computer animation.
