Scarlett Johansson was spotted filming scenes for DreamWorks Pictures' upcoming live-action film adaptation of Ghost in the Shell in Hong Kong. DreamWorks previously released a single profile shot of Johansson in costume as the film's lead, Major Motoko Kusanagi. The new set photos show Johansson's full costume, as well as co-star Pilou Asbæk as Kusanagi's trusted right-hand man, Batou.

Originally appearing on the HK01 website, Kotaku has some additional photos of the extras helping to turn the streets of modern Hong Kong into the cyberpunk future of Shirow Masamune's original manga.

Ghost in the Shell stars Johansson as the field leader of Section 9, a government special task force that specializes in fighting cyber terrorism and cyber crime in a future where nearly all humans have some form of cybernetic enhancement. Kusanagi herself uses a fully artificial body. The story will borrow from the anime television series Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, pitting Section 9 against the elusive hacking prodigy known as The Laughing Man.

Ghost in the Shell is being directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White and the Huntsman) from a screenplay written by Jonathan Herman and Jamie Moss. In addition to Johansson and Asbæk, Ghost in the Shell stars Michael Pitt as The Laughing Man, Takeshi Kitano as Section 9 head Daisuke Aramaki, and Juliette Binoche as Dr. Ouelet. The cast also includes Rita Fukushima, Kaori Momoi, Chin Han, Danusia Samal, Lasarus Ratuere, Yutaka Izumihara, and Tuwanda Manyimo.

Ghost in the Shell is scheduled for theatrical release on March 31, 2017.
