The BBC has released a new teaser for series four of Sherlock.
The brief video shows Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch) and Dr. John Watson (Martin Freeman) sitting in Sherlock's familiar 221B Baker Street apartment. What is unusual is that the apartment appears to be flooded up to Sherlock and Watson's ankles, with Sherlock's various belongings floating about.
Sherlock Season 4 begins with the mercurial Sherlock Holmes (Benedict Cumberbatch), back once more on British soil as Doctor Watson (Martin Freeman) and his wife Mary (Amanda Abbington) prepare for their biggest challenge yet: becoming parents.
The season has also teased the return of Sherlock's nemesis, Jim Moriarty (Andrew Scott). Toby Jones will also guest star in season four's second episode, "The Lying Detective," as one of Sherlock's greatest foes.
Sherlock has been on a long hiatus since the conclusion of Series 3, which ended with Sherlock sentenced to exile after murdering a man only to be summoned back just after his plane took off in order to deal with the return of Moriarty.
A Sherlock New Year's Day Special titled Sherlock: The Abominable Bride, aired on New Year's Day 2016. The tale set the modern Sherlock character in the tradition Victorian England time period. The entire experiment turned out to be an exercise in Sherlock's mind palace.
Sherlock Series 4 debuts on New Year's Day, Jan. 1 2016 on the BBC. Sherlock airs as part of PBS' Masterpiece in the United States.
