Considering the amount of icons in the entertainment industry we lost in 2016, that year will go down as one of the most devastating in terms of how many beloved entertainers we lost. Two of the most notable deaths came at the end of the year, when mother and daughter Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher tragically passed away one day after another. Their deaths have been mourned in countless ways in the days and weeks since, but now details have been revealed of an official public memorial to honor their passing.

Debbie's son and Carrie's brother Todd Fisher has announced plans for a public memorial honoring the two entertainers. His statement reads:

"On Saturday, March 25th, there will be a public memorial for my Mother, Debbie Reynolds, and my sister, Carrie Fisher at Forrest Lawn Cemetery Hollywood Hills at the Freedom Theater. We will be celebrating their lives with friends, family members, and the people who loved them, you.

"The service will begin at 1:00 PM and immediately afterwards, those who want to walk to their final resting place are welcome to do so. There are a limited number of seats available, and it will be on a first come first come, first seated basis, There are no tickets, it is first come, first seated. There will be room for overflow in the huge lobby as well as the outside with screens to watch and hear the service."

The two actresses were laid to rest in a joint ceremony held on January 6 at the Forrest Lawn Memorial Park. Keeping in line with Carrie's eccentric sense of humor, a portion of her ashes was placed in a large metallic Prozac pill, which Todd claimed was one of her most prized possessions.

Immediately following Carrie's passing, many fans and admirers headed to the Hollywood Walk of Fame to create an impromptu memorial for her, leaving flowers and serving as a place for Star Wars fans to grieve their Leia Organa.

The passing of the two stars caused the Golden Globe Awards to honor them with a tribute video, despite not holding an In Memoriam segment in the past.

With the Academy Awards coming in a couple weeks, an interview Fisher did in 2010 has re-surfaced, in which she requested her Star Wars co-star Harrison Ford honor her passing in a unique way.

"I asked him [at a party] if he would be in my death reel, and if he would sing," Fisher detailed to Rebel Force Radio. "It's just something I want." She added, jokingly, that Ford would sing "Melancholy Wookiee."

There's no word on whether the Oscars will make good on her wishes, but the strange request is just a testament to Fisher's unique outlook on life and death.
