Calfa captured the hearts of fans with his role as Ernie on Return Of The Living Dead, the mortician from the beginning of the film. Ernie successfully cremated the “Yellow Man”, which caused the toxic rain that brought about another zombie infection. While his role was small in the film, it was a vital one that fans connected with. When many people share memories of the film, they often think about Ernie’s scen in the mortuary as one of their favorites.

Since the film, Calfa has become a hit with horror fans for his interactions at conventions. While many actors have tended to shy away from fans at these events, Calfa has always been a warm embrace for those seeking interaction. Convention-goers have been drawn to the actor’s booth on many occasions, due to his ability to connect with his fans.

In addition to Return Of The Living Dead, Don Calfa has appeared in TV and film projects like Weekend At Bernie’s, Barney Miller, Doctor Dolittle, Twin Peaks, Doogie Houser M.D., and Boy Meets World.

Don Calfa is the latest in a long list of of celebrities to pass away in 2016. Alan Rickman, David Bowie, Gene Wilder, Anton Yelchin, Prince, Arnold Palmer, Florence Henderson, Mohamed Ali, and many others have all lost their lives this year.
