Ricky Gervais will reprise the role that made him famous, the uncomfortable office manager David Brent in a BBC film called Life on the Road with David Brent. This won’t be the first time that Gervais has played David since the 2003 end of the British incarnation of The Office. In 2014 he started the popular Youtube series Learn Guitar with David Brent and has also appeared in the UK fundraising special, Comic Relief in character.

The film, created for BBC originally was set to air in the UK on August 19th, 2016 but with the news of Netflix acquiring world wide rights the release date is unsure. Gervais made the announcement on Opie Radio: “This is exciting news, and this is top secret, so I’m going to say it now… Netflix has bought out the rest of the world again… so everyone’s going to see it. It’s great for me because I’d rather 20 million people see it than half a million people see it in cinemas, do you know what I mean?”
Netflix has done several projects with Gervais, Special Correspondents, a comedy special and the series Derek.
DAVID BRENT: LIFE ON THE ROAD is the big screen debut of one of comedy’s best-loved characters, David Brent (Ricky Gervais). The film catches up with Brent twelve years on from the BBC’s ‘The Office’ to find he is now a travelling salesman with Lavichem, a cleaning and ladies’ personal hygiene products company. However, he hasn’t given up on his dream of rock stardom and is about to embark on a self-financed UK tour with his band, ‘Foregone Conclusion’.
